CHANUTE — The Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks & Tourism is offering a hunter education class at Chanute’s Elks Lake Aug. 30 and 31.

The class is free, but students must attend all sessions, and must preregister online at www.safehunters.com. Class sizes are limited.

Hunter education certification allows hunters ages 12 to 15 to hunt by themselves. Otherwise, hunters younger than 16 must be under adult supervision. No hunter under the age of 12 may hunt alone, regardless of hunter education status — even if they are hunting on private land.
