Both Humboldt teams ended Tuesday 0-2 in Tri-Valley League play after losing to Eureka.
The Lady Cubs lost 44-43 in a game that went down to the wire.
Humboldt trailed 10-9 after the first quarter. That got stretched to five by the half. The Tornados kept that five-point lead throughout the third quarter before the Lady Cubs put the clamps on them in the fourth. Humboldt allowed Eureka to score just two buckets, outscoring the Tornados 12-8. However, they still came up a point short.
Junior Aricah McCall had 18 points in the loss to lead Humboldt, followed by nine for sophomore Winter Snyder, seven for junior Maggie Johnson, six for senior Rylan Wilhite, two for junior Kaylie Johnson and one for sophomore Alayna Johnson.
The boys followed that up by getting blown out 62-33.
The Cubs started off poorly, falling behind by 22-10 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, Humboldt allowed Eureka to outscore them 27-8 to go into halftime trailing 49-18. Humboldt rebounded slightly in the third and fourth quarters, outscoring the Tornados 15-13 but the hole was far too deep to dig out of.
Junior Terryn Johnson had seven points followed by six for senior Hesston Murrow and four for sophomore Conor Haviland, junior Tucker Hurst and senior Jacob Barker. Seniors Lance Daniels, Wyatt Seufert and Zach Korte had two points.
The boys’ junior varsity team won 61-33. Junior Kyler Allen had 12 points and sophomore Luke Yokum had 10 points.
The Cubs will host Caney Valley on Friday. The Caney boys are ranked third in Class 3A.
