Ross D. Umholtz, 92, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019, in Iola. He was born May 16, 1926, in Newton, to Harry and Louise (Deschner) Umholtz.
He served in the Army Air Corps, 1950-1952.
He married Mary Joe Hampton in 1953. The marriage ended in divorce.
Ross married Marian Boese in 1959, and they lived in LaHarpe. She died in 1980.
Ross worked as a welder for Nelson Quarries in LaHarpe, retiring in 2001. He also raised quarter horses.
Ross was preceded in death by his son, Robert Butch Barnett, brothers Harold and John Umholtz, and sister, Alice Grisier.
He is survived by sisters, Wilma (Ken) Strawder, Inman, Norma Jean Nebergall, Newton, and Dorothy Nickel, Anthony; a brother, Earl (Cathy) Umholtz, Fall River; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Ross donated his body to the University of Kansas Anatomy and Cell Biology Department. A private family celebration of life service may be held at a later date.
