Kendall Dee Call, 87, of Iola, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2018.

He was born to Clifford E. and Emma L. (Hackett) Call on April 7, 1931, at the family home in Mildred. He had seven siblings; Beverly, Marilyn, Curtice, Merlyn, Jerry, Lawrence, and baby Joyce. Kendall graduated from Moran High School, where he played on the basketball team. After graduation, he worked on a road construction crew for John McAdams for 3½ years before entering the U.S. Navy in 1951 where he served his country for four years.

Kendall married Billie Brewington in Mildred, on June 10, 1951. They welcomed five children; Mike, Joyce, Tracy, Terry, and Randy. After his military service, he served as an officer for 20 years with the Iola Police Department. He also had his own construction company, Call Construction.

He was a loving husband, dad, and grandpa. He was raised on the family farm and was a very hard worker. Kendall was extremely talented and competitive, but also ornery and stubborn. He passed these traits on to his children. In his spare time, he enjoyed shooting pool and entered many tournaments, winning many of them. He loved football and basketball, and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their sporting events. Kendall was a member of the Elks Lodge in Iola.

Kendall was a proud grandpa to 39 grandkids, great-grandkids, and great-great-grandkids. They were a source of much joy for him, which was evident in the way his face lit up every time they would visit.

Kendall is survived by his wife, Billie Call; children Michael J. Call and wife Brenda of Fort Scott, Joyce E. Lay and husband Randy of Ottawa, Tracy L. Keagle and husband Willie of Iola, Terry A. Call and wife Susie of Iola, Randall L. Call and wife Janet of Silver Lake; sister, Beverly Bynum and husband Bud of Topeka; 18 grandchildren; and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.

Kendall was preceded in death by his parents; stepmom, Edna Call; brothers, Merlyn, Curtice, Lawrence, and Jerry; and sisters, Marilyn and Joyce.

Friends and family can pay their respects 4-7 p.m. Monday at Countryside Funeral Home – Humboldt Chapel in Humboldt. A graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Mildred, at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
