Gene Laver

Edwin “Gene” Laver, age 73, of Moran, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2020 at his home.

Gene was the first of two children born to Edwin A. Laver and Eva Maxine (Hibbs) Martin. He was born on Feb. 13, 1947 in Moran. He attended school in Moran.

He married Patricia Henry on May 27, 1967. Their union was blessed with two children, Karla Jean and Brian Eugene Laver. They later divorced. He remarried in 1990 to Glenda Goodman and embraced Glenda’s son, Richard Goodman, like his own.

Gene was a farmer and truck driver all of his life. He spent the last 15 years working for Whitaker Aggregates. He began there as an operator and later was promoted to foreman. Once retired, he continued doing work for Whitaker’s hauling grain and doing odds and ends farm work for them. Before working for Whitaker’s, he was working as a truck driver, hauling grain, for Dee Roberts Trucking. In his early years, Gene enjoyed riding horses, breaking colts, tending to his cow herd, and farming. He was a true workaholic. He usually drove a truck hauling crude oil during the day and farmed at night, or vice versa. He spent his life working for everything he had to be able to provide for his children and make sure they had everything they wanted or needed and more. Family was everything to Gene. He made his kids and grandkids a priority. You could find him attending as many of their events as he possibly could.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Glenda Laver; brother, Everett Laver; and step-father, Loren Martin.

Gene is survived by companion Sherry Hart; daughter, Karla Boots (Justin); two sons, Brian Laver and Richard Goodman; three grandchildren, Dakota, Stetson, and Karlee; and numerous other family members and friends.

Graveside services in honor of Gene will be at 2 p.m. on Monday at Maple Grove Cemetery, Humboldt. Gene will lie in state at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in The Chapel, 1883 US-HWY 54 in Iola from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Memorials are suggested to Wings of Warriors or SEK Little Britches Rodeo Association and may be left with the funeral home. Condolences for the family may be left online at www.feuerbornfuneral.com.
