Alden Alpha Ensminger passed away on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019, in Olathe at the age of 89. Alden was born on Oct. 27, 1929 in Iola, to Alpha and Gladys (Storminger) Ensminger. He graduated from Moran Rural High School and was a lifelong resident of Moran.
Alden farmed in partnership with his brother Dave and continued the family business of Ensminger Grain and Seed founded in 1888. Alden served in the National Guard and the Army and served on the Board of Trustees of Allen County Community College during the expansion phase to its current location. He was instrumental as a founder of the Moran Manor Nursing Home and Citizens State Bank in Moran now known as Emprise Bank. He was an active member of Elks Lodge No. 569 in Iola, Mirza Shrine Temple, and VFW. He was also a lifelong member of Masonic Lodge No. 245, American Legion Post No. 385 both of Moran. Alden was just as proud of his lifelong membership in the Kansas Crop Improvement Association.
Alden is survived by his wife of 58 years, Reta (Blake); three children, Lila (Steve) Bayer of Little Rock, Ark., Aldie (Bev) Ensminger of Everest, and Kendra Haen of Gardner; as well as 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother Dave and sister Barbara Siefker of Moran, brothers-in-law H.R. Siefker of McPherson and E.J. Siefker of Moran.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Sue (Frances) Siefker, sister-in-law Velma Ensminger, and great-grandchild, Moxxlee Jax McGlynn.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Venue, 1883 US-Hwy 54 Iola. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Presbyterian Church, 302 E. Madison Iola.
Cremation and burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to the Presbyterian Church of Iola Building Fund or the Moran American Legion, and can be left with Feuerborn Family Funeral Service.
