In light of the overwhelming community support trailing the formation of USD 258s new trapshooting team, the board of education has agreed to allow trap club participants to receive a letter in the sport.
A main pillar of the original proposal for the clubs formation was that the district would not fund or any other way extend material assistance to the club, and would limit its support to the permission it granted the shooting club to compete under the Humboldt Cub name.
Tuesdays move bends this rule, if only slightly. Those kids will be working hard and spending their time, said Superintendent of Schools Kay Lewis, and I just felt like those ninth- through twelfth-graders should be able to get a letter like everybody else.
