Iola Public Library

Iola Public Library offers a variety of programs for adults in upcoming weeks.

The Intrepid Readers book discussion will be at 2 p.m. May 3. The book selection is “The Women in the Castle” by Jessica Shattuck. In a crumbling Bavarian castle, three women face life in the waning days of World War II and its aftermath. One is the aristocratic widow of a resister murdered in the failed plot to assassinate Hitler. Honoring a pledge to find and protect wives and children of two conspirators, she has pulled them from a Nazi re-education home for children, a displaced persons camp and a Red Army brothel. Despite shared pain and hardships, each must come to terms with choices made before, during and after the war.

“As the Coffee Grinds” will be presented at 7 p.m. May 7. Anyone who has ever wondered how coffee is grown, roasted and ground before producing that delicious aromatic drink in their morning cup may be interested. Tom Wheat will share his vast knowledge of the different roasts of java, go-go juice, coffee or whatever you call it. There may even be a sampling.
