A portion of the Prairie Spirit Trail in north Iola is being converted from asphalt to limestone screenings because of ongoing cracking issues with the asphalt. Here, city crews use a trackhoe to pry up a segment of the trail. The quarter-mile stretch extends from north of Country Lanes to near Miller Road. Crews from J&J Contractors, Iola, also recently replaced a a wooden bridge farther to the north. The bridge had been damaged in a fire several years ago. REGISTER/RICHARD LUKEN
