HUMBOLDT — During a special session Monday night city council members unanimously approved changes in the police department’s lieutenant classification and job description, making it a salaried position rather than paid hourly. Responsibilities will include assisting Chief Brian Dillow with administration and supervision of officers.
Jerry Daniels, former Allen County undersheriff and Highway Patrol trooper, will join the department in the revamped lieutenant’s position. He began his law enforcement career with Humboldt in 1991 when he returned from helicopter duty in Desert Storm.
Daniels is an Allen County commissioner.
Council members also approved bids for two homes involved in the city’s rental rehabilitation program: 113 N. 12th St., Larry Ewing Construction, Erie, $20,000, and 1122 Mulberry St., S&A Construction, Wichita, $20,718. A grant from the Kansas Department of Commerce pays 75 percent with the remainder responsibility of the landlord, with the provision the landlord’s part is forgiven after three years if renters during that period meet low- to moderate-income guidelines.
