COLONY — A mixture of old and new activities will fill the 15th annual Colony Day Celebration Saturday.
In addition to old standbys, such as the popular auto show, volleyball tournament and parade, the 2011 edition will feature a homestead rodeo for area youths.
“It should be a lot of fun,” said Marla Bain, Colony Day Committee chairman.
The events kick off bright and early with a Lion’s Club Breakfast at 7 a.m.
At the same time, registration begins for a fun run and walk in front of the bank in downtown Colony. Runners will travel a 5K course; walkers a shorter route than that.
The fun will feature a lighthearted twist, Bain said.
“We really want our participants to show up in costume,” she said.
The run and walk begin at 7:30.
From there, a kid’s tractor pull starts at 8:45, followed by the auto show at 9 and kids games and races at 9:30.
A chili and salsa contest takes center stage at 10, followed by a pie-baking contest at 10:45.
Jay and Virginia Dutton are the grand marshals for the 11 o’clock parade, themed “Where Memories Are Made.”
The Colony Day schedule differs from years past in that the annual Colony Day Dinner has been supplanted by the Colony Day Lunch. Taco salad, hot dogs, nachos, cookies and drinks will be served starting at 11:45. In years past, the meals weren’t served until late in the afternoon.
The volleyball tournament also starts at 11:45, followed shortly thereafter by the noon pony pull and inflatable games.
A cake walk starts at 1 p.m., and an ice cream social at 2. A pie and basket auction follow at 3, along with several drawings for prizes.
Bill Smith will provide music on the free stage in downtown Colony at 4:30.
The homestead rodeo will feature a number of age-appropriate contests with sheep, cattle and buckin’ broncos, Bain said, at 5 o’clock.
In addition to serving lunch, the Colony Day Committee will have for sale T-shirts, drawing tickets and other memorabilia through the day. A rock wall climb, craft vendors and farm implement show will be on display throughout the day as well.
