The Iola United Methodist Women met Jan. 24.
Gerry Uphoff noted the call to prayer and self-denial offering will go toward Building a Thriving Generation of Children and Youth Worldwide. Members suggested skipping at least one meal a week, and donating money toward the mission ministry.
The Rev. Jocelyn Tupper gave the program on reading as a study opportunity that leads to action to encourage critical thinking. Suggested books run the gamut of spiritual growth. Social action genres are available on the United Methodist Women website and the Iola Public Library can obtain most of the books upon request.
