Robert L. Lane, 39, is a candidate for the Iola Board of Education. He is the first Negro to seek that post. Born in Iola, Lane graduated from the local high school and junior college and has always lived here with the exception of 42 months in the armed services. He was discharged with the rank of master sergeant. He is employed at Sleeper Furniture Store. He is a past master of the Golden Square Masonic Lodge and is a trustee of the Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hixon, who opened the Hixon Office Equipment Store three-and-a-half years ago at 109 W. Madison, have moved their stock to 12 S. Washington, the room formerly occupied by the New Leader. The Hixons have outgrown their old quarters, having expanded steadily since opening the business.
